Week 12: Touch & Go

This is one of my all-time favorite disco records: kind of a missing link between the soul groups of the 1960s and the beat-driven NY Garage and proto-House of the late 1970s and early ’80s. I made it a little easier to beatmix, and drew it out a little, and built in some big dramatic breakdowns to freak out the people who already know the original.

Week 11: No Way Back

Here’s an iconic Chicago acid anthem that every househead has heard a million times (and that I probably shouldn’t even have the audacity to fuck with, but here goes!)

I cut it up in hopes of making a subtly new version that emphasizes the driving, jacking vibe of the original, and also to function as a sort of curveball for the jaded know-it-all house nerds in the audience. 🙂

Week 10: Showdown

Here’s an edit of a tune from one of my fave New York post-punk / disco labels. The singer & producer on this both did a lot of work throughout the disco/punk/new wave/art kid scene that existed in New York in the early 1980s, but this particular song seems to have be a forgotten one. It’s a great seed of a song but there were some parts that hadn’t aged very well, so I took out the dumb bits, extended it, dubbed it out, and structured it to be a little more DJ friendly.
